Seafarers’ House Launches Annual Philanthropic Partner Program

4/18/17

Seafarers’ House is pleased to announce that American Maritime Officers, (AMO), the largest union of U.S. merchant marine officers, is supporting the organization’s mission year-round by becoming the Port Everglades-based nonprofit’s first Annual Philanthropic Partner.

The partnership program was established this year as a way to give donors an opportunity to support Seafarers’ House mission in a way that not only has a more significant impact, but also best fits their own philanthropic giving goals.

“Our donors historically have been very generous and many have asked us how they can support us, not only during special events, but year-round, because Seafarers’ House is open throughout the year,” said Executive Director Lesley Warrick. “By becoming an Annual Philanthropic Partner, organizations not only will be able to sponsor our individual events, but also can provide funding for regular operations, as well as assist with emergencies when they arise.”

Last year, for example, Seafarers’ House reached into its emergency coffers to assist the crew of the cargo ship m/v Delphinus. A dozen mariners were stranded off the coast of Fort Lauderdale after the ship was seized by the U.S. Marshals Service. Seafarers’ House provided the crew with supplies, brought them ashore for a break from shipboard life and offered comfort and counsel.

“AMO has been a long-time supporter of Seafarers’ House and was looking for a means to have a greater impact with its philanthropic support,” said AMO Controller Thom Heaton.

The sponsorship package provides donors with opportunities to support Seafarers’ House annual signature event, the Golden Compass Award Gala, as well as its Shoebox Christmas program, South Florida Business Leaders’ Luncheon, International Day of the Seafarer, mariner transportation and much more.
