Over 500 people participated in FLIPANY’s 11th annual Fun Run on Jan. 7 at Hollywood North Beach Park, raising $14,000 for important local health and wellness programs to help end childhood obesity. Walkers and runners of all ages enjoyed a 5K/10K, paddle boarding, natural juice bar, free kids’ activities at the Fun Run Kids’ Zone, vendor tables/health fair, silent auction/raffle and much more.
Julie Guy and Evelyn Curry, hosts of the LITE 101.5 FM morning show, co-hosted the event; the Miami HEAT Dancers performed as part of a flash mob.
“This year’s Fun Run was a very successful event, and we are pleased to have raised $14,000 for important programs to help end childhood obesity in South Florida,” said FLIPANY President, CEO and Founder Lynne Kunins. “With these funds, we educate and empower youth and adults through nutrition and physical activity programs, while influencing policy changes for healthier communities.”
In 2016 alone, FLIPANY served more than 51,000 disadvantaged youth and families including seniors through collaborations with community centers, schools, afterschool programs, parks, and other social services agencies. It is the first unaffiliated sponsor of the Afterschool Meal Program in Broward and Miami-Dade Counties.
Serving food to over 6,400 aftercare students per day (over 1 million meals per year), FLIPANY operates in 115 locations in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, and anticipates additional growth in 2017.
In addition, FLIPANY is a sponsor for the federal Summer Foods Service Program and in summer 2016 served 1,800 children in Miami-Dade and 1,000 children in Broward County with healthy breakfast, snacks, and dinner in their summer programs on a daily basis. Programs like these work toward the goal of children being healthy and better prepared for academic success.
