Earlier today, speaker, author and consultant, Dr. Devorah Heitner, held an educational seminar for Gulliver parents called "Screenwise: Helping Kids Thrive (and Survive) in Their Digital World" at two of the school's campuses.

"By providing our Gulliver families with seminars and other ongoing educational opportunities, we are giving parents the tools to be empowered partners with us in preparing students to thrive in our high-tech global society."

Dr. Devorah Heitner's presentation educated parents on how to raise children in the digital age. Specifically, Dr. Heitner touched upon how parents can be examples to their children when it comes to using smartphones and gadgets, and how parents can effectively monitor their children's Internet use. The topics she discussed included:

  • Choosing quality apps
  • How to be safe with the Internet at various ages
  • Navigating Friendships and Exclusion in an age of texting
  • Understanding Privacy (Giving your child privacy and when its okay to intrude)
  • Digital Footprint
  • Navigating Distraction

"Many parents and educators worry that kids are addicted, detached, or distracted because of their digital devices," said Dr. Devorah Heitner. "I believe that technology offers huge potential to our children--if parents help them."
