Neighbors 4 Neighbors (N4N) has launched Connections for Cancer, its first ever cancer resource campaign to help patients, families and friends navigate through a cancer diagnosis. Sponsored by Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of UHealth-the University of Miami Health System, and in collaboration with dozens of cancer support organizations, the South Florida Cancer Control Collaborative and Health Foundation of South Florida, this campaign offers pertinent information to direct people to support and advocacy organizations.
“Neighbors 4 Neighbors is committed to helping connect those in need with those who can give,” said Lynne Cameron, executive director of Neighbors 4 Neighbors. “Cancer is a leading cause of death which affects so many lives and together with the fine team at Sylvester we are proud to offer a platform to help our affected friends and neighbors.”
The campaign will feature a plethora of public service announcements on CBS4 and a dedicated page on the N4N website with links to support. Also, there is an opportunity for South Florida residents to do what they can by volunteering in support of local cancer organizations. Individuals can identify a project and register on the N4N volunteer matching website, helpingfeelsgood.org. Not-for-profit cancer support organizations are invited to join the effort.
“Many people want to help individuals with cancer and their families, but don’t know how,” said William F. Pirl, M.D., M.P.H., associate director of Cancer Support Services at Sylvester. “This partnership will connect those who want to help with those who really need it. This will be a valuable resource for individuals with cancer in South Florida. I am excited to see the program grow.”
As the only academic cancer center in South Florida, Sylvester is committed to providing support, education, and evidence-based care to enhance cancer patients’ quality of life and long-term survivorship. Patients have access to Sylvester’s support services at all of the cancer center’s locations throughout Miami-Dade and Broward counties.

About Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center
Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of UHealth – the University of Miami Health System and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, is among the nation’s leading cancer centers and South Florida's only Cancer Center of Excellence. A 2015 study by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, published in The Journal of the American Medical Association, showed that cancer patients treated at Sylvester have a 10 percent higher chance of survival than those treated at nearly any other cancer center in the nation. With the combined strength of more than 120 cancer researchers and 130 cancer specialists, Sylvester discovers, develops and delivers more targeted therapies, providing the next generation of cancer clinical care – precision cancer medicine – to each patient. Our comprehensive diagnostics, coupled with teams of scientific and clinical experts who specialize in just one type of cancer, enable us to better understand each patient’s individual cancer and develop treatments that target the cells and genes driving the cancer's growth and survival, leading to better outcomes. At Sylvester, patients have access to more treatment options and more cancer clinical trials than most hospitals in the southeastern United States. To better serve current and future patients, Sylvester has a network of conveniently located outpatient treatment facilities in Miami, Kendall, Hollywood, Plantation, Deerfield Beach, Coral Springs, and Coral Gables.
