Dade Heritage Trust (DHT) has unveiled a historic marker for its headquarters at Dr. Jackson’s office and surgery, located at 190 Southeast 12 Terrace. The marker was aptly timed due to the recent passage of a charter amendment guaranteeing the Trust a 90-year lease at this location.
 
“This historic marker commemorates not only Dr. Jackson and his influence on Miami’s healthcare industry, but also Dade Heritage Trust’s 30-year effort to establish a long-term headquarters,” said Dr. Edmund Parnes, president of DHT.
 
Mayor Tomas Regalado, Dr. Parnes and Christine Rupp, DHT executive director, unveiled the sign to a crowd of 50 people. The historic maker will serve to educated those who pass by Dr. Jackson’s office as well as those who plan a visit to the facility on the history and significance of this building.  
 
“The Trust has been preserving Miami’s history since 1972. We are enthusiastic about the future and our role in educating visitors about Dr. Jackson and his service to our community,” said Rupp.
 
The wood building, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, exemplifies the adaptation of the Neo-Classical style to Miami’s climate with wide porches, supported by Doric columns.  Operated and maintained as offices, gallery and library by Dade Heritage Trust, the historic Dr. Jackson building also serves as an Official Heritage Tourism Visitor’s Center, open to the public seven days a week in the vibrant Brickell area.
