Calaveras Cantina’s Curtis Peery Named 2016 BigWig by Susan G. Komen South Florida

9/28/16

Calaveras Cantina is excited to announce thatCurtis Peery, “El Presidente” of the Jupiter based restaurant, has been selected as a 2016 BigWig for Susan G. Komen® South Florida. As a BigWig, Peery will be one of six Palm Beach County corporate and community VIPs to raise funds for Komen South Florida’s October BigWig fundraising campaign while wearing a Cosmo & Company-designed bright pink wig and appearing at special events.

As the only male born out of two generations in his family, and believing in his company’s culture to "do well by doing good," supporting Komen South Florida was a natural for Peery. “Surrounded by women in my family and at Calaveras Cantina—an extension of my family—I am very aware of the risk of breast cancer,” said Peery. “I want to do as much as I can to help put an end to this disease that affects more women and men than it should.”

Peery and his staff are going all out to spread awareness of breast cancer and raise funds for Komen South Florida. Beginning October 1st, guests at Calaveras Cantina will have the opportunity to "round up for Breast Cancer," rounding their checks up to $1, $10 or $100 and donating the difference to Komen South Florida. Peery will run his restaurant’s campaign through the middle of November with the goal of raising $5,000.

During the campaign, all of the restaurant’s team members will wear pink. Bartenders will sport pink suspenders, hosts will greet guests with pink roses in their hair and servers will wear pink ribbons to help spread awareness.

“I love that we are more than just a restaurant company,” said Peery. “We are also able to help raise funds to cure diseases and help better our community.”

Dayve Gabbard, executive director of Komen South Florida, is excited to have Peery as a BigWig. “Curtis is the example of what we mean by More Than Pink,™” she said. “He and his team are taking action to bring awareness and much-need funds to support our bold goal of reducing the breast cancer mortality rate by 50% over the next decade.”

Peery and all of the BigWigs will be unveiled at a kick-off event on October 6th at Cosmo and Company Salon and Spa in West Palm Beach. They can also be seen sporting their high fashion hairpieces at the Saks Fifth Avenue Palm Beach Key to the Cure private shopping event on October 26th and online at www.komensouthflorida.org/bigwigs as they raise funds for Komen.
