Cosmo & Company to Unveil Pink Wigs for Big Wigs

9/22/16

Palm Beach County VIPs are putting their heads in the hands of master stylist Cosmo Dischino for a very important mission this October: donning Cosmo & Company-designed bright pink wigs to raise funds for Susan G. Komen South Florida’s BigWigs campaign to help end breast cancer forever.

Dischino, owner of Cosmo & Company Salon & Spa in West Palm Beach and Boston, is generously contributing his time and legendary flair to style the fuchsia-colored hairpieces for six well-known community and corporate leaders, including himself. He and several of his stylists will customize the wigs, donated by Innovative Hair Solutions, to match each BigWig’s big-time personality.

The 2016 BigWigs include:

  • Raphael Clemente, Executive Director, West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority
  • Cosmo Dischino, Cosmo & Company, West Palm Beach
  • Jonathan Duerr, Fite & Shavell, West Palm Beach
  • Curtis Peery, Calaveras Cantina, Jupiter
  • Jamel Stewart, City Manager, Delray Beach
  • Jay Zeager, On Air Personality JVC Broadcasting, West Palm Beach
  • 2016 Honorary BigWig- Ryan Beckett, Reality Show Personality ABC’s “Bachelor in Paradise”, Wellington

The BigWigs will be unveiled on October 6, 2016 at a special kick-off event at Cosmo & Company beginning at 6:00 p.m.

While the BigWigs campaign is lighthearted, Dischino understands all too well the life-saving importance of raising funds to find a cure for breast cancer. His first wife Sheila was diagnosed right after the birth of their second son, Alexander. Her diagnosis was devastating to Dischino and his family, especially during what should have been a joyous time. Sheila fought the disease for seven years. After undergoing many treatments including a mastectomy, two bone marrow transplants, and traveling for treatments from Palm Beach to Texas, Sheila lost her battle in August 1997, leaving behind her two sons, Alexander, 7 and Christopher, 12. Dischino’s sister-in-law also battled with breast cancer and died in July 1997.

“I have been deeply and personally affected by this devastating disease,” said Dischino. “Coming from an Italian heritage where we treat everyone as family, it is very important to me and our Cosmo & Company team to remember our loved ones and the dear friends and customers we have lost by helping to find a cure.” Dischino and his wife Susan have donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation and several other charities benefiting breast cancer awareness every year since 2000.

To make the kick-off of the BigWigs fundraising campaign as successful as possible, Cosmo & Company has committed to raising a minimum of $5,000, donating raffle prizes worth $3,000 and enlisting several other sponsors, including Lynora’s Italian Restaurant, Beauté Therapies Medical Spa, Blue Martini, 95.9 The Palm Radio, Photo-Jennic Photography, 360 Beauty, Health, Wellness, Boutique Bellissima.

The BigWigs will also sport their high fashion hairpieces during the October campaign at the Saks Fifth Avenue Palm Beach Key to the Cure private shopping event on October 19,2016. Each BigWig has a goal to raise a minimum of $5,000 to support essential breast health services, education programs and research to find the cures for breast cancer. Seventy-five percent of funds raised stay local to support Palm Beach, Martin and St. Lucie county programs, while 25% is dedicated to cutting-edge research to benefit breast cancer patients worldwide.
