Who/What: Feeding South Florida®, a member of Feeding Florida®, a statewide network of Feeding America® food banks providing a healthy, adequate and consistent food supply, will distribute 25,500 units of mosquito repellant to individuals in need in Miami-Dade County. The mosquito repellant is being distributed to help combat and prevent Zika and other mosquito-borne diseases.
In total, Feeding South Florida will distribute 51,000 units of mosquito repellant in Miami-Dade and Palm Beach Counties in mid-August 2016. Feeding Florida is distributing over 500,000 units of mosquito repellent statewide in an effort to assist in the overall health of Floridians.
“Feeding America food banks serve as the backbone of our community, working to identify solutions to ensure a healthy quality of life for our residents,” said Paco Vélez, CEO of Feeding South Florida. “Feeding South Florida’s service area is ground zero for the Zika virus, so we look forward to providing our community with the necessary resources to prevent this and other mosquito-borne diseases.”
When: Friday, Aug. 12, 2016, 11 a.m.
Where:
Miami Bethany Church of the Nazarene
2490 NW 35th St., Miami, Florida 33142
Why: Currently, 30 of Florida’s 67 counties have reported Zika cases stemming from people traveling outside the continental U.S., with Miami-Dade County claiming 106 of the total.
