The former Schoenbaum family compound on Longboat Key sells for $6.75 million; a Casey Key Gulf-to-bay estate designed by Guy Peterson closes at $6.25 million

Premier Sotheby’s International Realty has announced two significant sales out of its downtown Sarasota office. Sales Associate Thomas Netzel brought the buyer to the $6.75 million sale of the former Schoenbaum family compound at 5541 Gulf of Mexico Drive on Longboat Key. Days later, Netzel’s listing at 814 North Casey Key Road in Osprey closed for $6.25 million.

The beachfront Longboat Key property was once owned by the late Sarasota philanthropist Betty Schoenbaum and her husband, restauranteur Alex Schoenbaum, who passed away in 1996. The three-story estate features over 14,000 square feet of luxury living. Exquisite appointments include a wine room, sauna and expansive gym.

"This property is incredibly unique because it is one of the very few family compounds on Longboat Key,” said Netzel. “It has five individual units, including a penthouse and four three-bedroom apartments, each with a kitchen and multiple bathrooms. While a company could have used this as a corporate compound, the buyers are delighted to use it as it was intended, as a family compound and getaway. Its location can’t be beaten, as it is within walking distance to the best restaurants on the key and across the street from Joan Durante Community Park."

The ultra-contemporary Gulf-to-bay residence on Casey Key is sited on the barrier island's coveted north end; the 1.2-acre property includes access to a private beach. Designed by award-winning architect Guy Peterson in collaboration with international architect and interior designer Robert Couturier, the home embodies the Sarasota School of Architecture movement.

The 6,552-square-foot, three-level residence features four en-suite bedrooms, two half baths, an office and an elevator. Outside, multiple sun decks, a saltwater pool, and several reflection pools are set against the breathtaking backdrop of Sarasota Bay. A boat dock and lift provide direct water access; on the Gulf side of the property, a private beach awaits.

“Guy Peterson designs are in demand on Casey Key, and the buyer loved the aesthetic and design of the home,” Netzel concluded. “Its Gulf-to-bay location on the north end of the key was highly desirable."
