Andreas C. Tomac, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.A.N.S.

Highly acclaimed neurosurgeon Andreas C. Tomac, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.A.N.S. has joined Holy Cross Medical Group, a multi-specialty physician employed group of more than 160 physicians providing services throughout Broward and Palm Beach counties.

At Holy Cross Health, Dr. Tomac focuses on complex spinal surgery, minimal invasive surgery, spinal oncology and skull base, trauma neurosurgery level I. His research focus is on gene therapy for neuromodulation, neuroregeneration and neuroprotection in diseases and injury of the central nervous system (CNS) as well as tailored gene targeting for CNS tumors.

A highly trained neurology specialist in brain and spine surgery, Dr. Tomac was most recently staff neurosurgeon in Colorado at Centura Health St. Anthony, a Level I Trauma Center, the highest level of emergency and trauma care for patients with highly complex injuries, and Centura Health Penrose Hospital, a Level II Trauma Center, which provides a comprehensive level of trauma care for acute patients including 24-hour access to surgeons. He was previously with the Florida Spine Institute in Clearwater, Florida and the Laser Spine Institute in Tampa.

Dr. Tomac is board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and is licensed with the Florida Board of Medicine, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Medical Boards in Colorado, Ohio, Wisconsin and Arizona. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, USA, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, North American Spine Society and AO Spine, the leading global academic community for innovative education and research in spine care.

Dr. Tomac has nearly 20 years of research, teaching and lecturing experience, has been published in several medical journals and holds numerous patents and licenses.

Fluent in English and Swedish, Dr. Tomac earned his Ph.D. from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden and his M.D. from University of Rochester in New York. He was a general surgery intern, a resident and chief resident in the Department of Neurosurgery and a Neurocritical Care Fellow in the Center for Neurocritical Care, all at University Hospitals of Cleveland in Ohio. Dr. Tomac was a Complex Spine Fellow at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland and a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development in Bethesda, Maryland and at the National Institute on Drug Abuse in Baltimore.
