Dr. William Vincent Burke
The Arthritis Foundation of South Florida honored Holy Cross Hospital physician and Fort Lauderdale resident Dr. William Vincent Burke with the Orthopaedic Surgeon of the Year Award during the non-profit’s Second Annual Evening of Honors.
The Orthopaedic Surgeon of the Year Award is presented in recognition of exemplary contributions to the medical profession through active leadership in professional organizations, dedicated service to patients and contributions that have shaped the future of healthcare.
Dr. Burke is an orthopedic surgeon with the Holy Cross Medical Group, a multi-specialty physician employed group of more than 160 physicians providing services throughout Broward and Palm Beach counties. He specializes in adult joint reconstructive surgery of the knee and hip, including revisions of total hip and knee replacement at the Holy Cross Orthopedic Institute in Fort Lauderdale.
“It is an honor to receive this award from the Arthritis Foundation,” said Dr. Burke, who was recognized with this award for his dedication to the treatment of arthritis. “According to projections from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 78 million adults age 18 and older will have doctor-diagnosed arthritis by 2040. We hope to reduce that number with vigorous research, continuous education and structured programs.”
Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, Dr. Burke received training at University of Miami and Jackson Memorial Hospital as an intern in the department of surgery and as a resident in the department of orthopaedics and rehabilitation, where he also served as chief resident. He also completed a clinical fellowship in adult reconstructive surgery at Anderson Orthopaedic Research Institute in Alexandria, Virginia. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical engineering from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio and medical degree from the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
Dr. Burke continues his research at the Holy Cross Orthopedic Research Institute and is published extensively in medical journals. He has received the Patient's Choice Award and Compassionate Doctor Award and been named among America’s Top Orthopedists, Florida Super Doctors and Best Doctors in America.
