The Daily Business Review has named Daniel Harwin, Esq., founding partner of Fort Lauderdale-based Freedland Harwin Valori, PL (FHV), to its 15th annual list of Most Effective Lawyers in the Medical Malpractice category. The designation recognizes lawyers for their achievements for clients in the past year. The awards include 20 categories.

Harwin and the other award winners will be featured in a Daily Business Review special report to be published Dec. 9, 2019.

Harwin was nominated for achieving a $24.5 million verdict for his clients, the plaintiffs ? the surviving husband and children of Lilia Torres? against several of her doctors in a wrongful death case, in Florida’s 17th Circuit Court. In July 2015, Lilia Torres bled to death following the childbirth of her fourth child.

Harwin had to prove the impact Lilia Torres’ death had on her family. The jury awarded damages to Lilia Torres’ husband, and each of the four surviving children of Lilia Torres. All four children were compensated by the jury for “the loss of parental companionship, instruction and guidance, and pain and suffering as a result of Lilia Torres’ injury and death.” Harwin worked with Todd Michaels, Esq. with the Coral Gables-based Haggard Law Firm on the case.

Harwin represents victims of medical malpractice and those who have been wrongfully injured in catastrophic accidents. He also handles personal injury matters, pharmaceutical liability and cases involving nursing home and assisted living neglect and abuse. He has secured multi-million dollar settlements on behalf of his clients.
