Luis F. Calvo

The law firm of Zumpano Patricios is pleased to announce the further expansion of its New York Office, Zumpano Patricios & Popok, PLLC, with the addition of Senior Litigation Associate, Luis F. Calvo.

Calvo, a seasoned litigator with a special emphasis in financial services litigation and arbitration, business dispute and employment litigation, is a member of the bars of both New York and Mexico, having obtained his law degrees and LLM (International Business and Trade Law) from Fordham University in New York, and from Universidad Panamericana (UP) in Mexico City.

A native English speaker, Calvo has naturally close ties to the Mexican legal community by virtue of the fact that both his father and grandfather practiced law there, and he began his legal career in Mexico working at a global law firm’s Mexico City office litigating procurement and antitrust matters. In New York, he also has extensive experience representing global financial services firms, broker-dealers, and securities professionals in connection with investment disputes and in employment actions. Unique among his peers, and an asset in the “flat” global economy, Calvo speaks three languages fluently, including Spanish and French.

Calvo was the Editor of Fordham Law’s Journal of Corporate and Financial Law and a selected as a member of the school’s prestigious Moot Court Board. He also received the Archibald R. Murray Public Service Award for his work in Fordham’s Securities Arbitration Clinic and Legal Outreach.

“Luis and his unique combination of skills, languages, and experience, well complements our trial and litigation practice firmwide and in the New York Office,” said firm Managing Shareholder Joe Zumpano. “When combined with our New York Managing Partner, Michael Popok, this array of talent can compete and win against the largest and most successful firms in New York.”

Zumpano Patricios, in its 17th year of operations, has offices in Miami, New York, Chicago, and Salt Lake City. The firm has a reputation for trying significant cases of international importance including Weininger v. Castro in which almost $24 million was recovered in the landmark case against Fidel and Raul Castro representing the daughter of CIA Pilot Thomas “Pete” Ray. Recently, Zumpano became the first attorney in U.S. history to recover for a victim of terrorism against a Mexican cartel in his representation of the son of a slain former UN Ambassador in Caballero v. FARC, et al.
