Holy Cross Medical Group, a multi-specialty physician employed group of more than 160 physicians providing services throughout Broward and Palm Beach counties, has announced the addition of their new cardiothoracic surgeon; John Nicholas Melvan, M.D., Ph.D.

John Nicholas Melvan, M.D., Ph.D. joins Holy Cross Hospital's Jim Moran Heart and Vascular Center from Emory University School of Medicine, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, where he completed a combined residency and fellowship training program. A member of the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Dr. Melvan's research interest at Emory focused on discovering novel predictors of poor outcomes in thoracic surgery. He is well published in numerous high-level journals like the Journal of the American College of Surgeons, The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, andAnnals of Thoracic Surgery.

Prior to joining Emory in Atlanta, Dr. Melvan received his bachelors of science degree from the University of Wisconsin. Thereafter, he earned his medical and doctoral degrees (M.D., Ph.D.) from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he also served as an instructor of cardiovascular physiology.
