Children’s Diagnostic & Treatment Center (CDTC) dedicated the Center’s Family Living Center to the SMART Ride (Southern Most AIDS/HIV Ride) in May. CDTC’s Comprehensive Family AIDS Program (CFAP) is one of seven programs in the state selected to benefit from the annual cycling event. Over the past seven years, CFAP has received more than $850,000 to provide vital medical and social services to women and children infected and affected by HIV in Broward County.
The SMART Ride is a two-day, 165-mile bike ride from Miami to Key West that raises funds and awareness for HIV/AIDS. Founder Glen Weinzimer and President & CEO John Rogatzki guarantee 100% of the funds raised provide direct services to those most in need. CDTC is one of seven HIV/AIDS agencies in the state chosen to take part in this year's ride.

Members of the CDTC Cyclones team ride and fundraise to help CFAP go beyond what insurance provides and enrich the health and lives of clients. SMART Ride dollars at the Center covers HIV testing, medical care and medications when insurance is not enough. Care Coordinators and Social Workers can also remove barriers to care thanks to funds from the ride. Transportation, support groups, retreats, summer camp, emergency assistance and HIV education are all provided by funds raised at the Ride.
“The SMART Ride is an extraordinary event,” shares Ana E. Calderon Randazzo, Ph.D., Executive Director of CDTC. “The Ride, its volunteers and participants have become a crucial part of our CFAP team. Much of the success we have in caring for our women and children is possible because of the SMART Ride’s dedication to raising support and awareness for our work. We are proud to dedicate our Family Living Center the Ride which means so much to our families.”

SMART Ride rides out from the University of Miami on November 16th and 17th. Registration for riders and crew members is now open. Participants need not be a professional rider; riders range in age and experience and all have a goal of raising awareness and funds.
The CDTC Cyclones team is looking members to join this summer. Interested riders and volunteers are welcome to attend any scheduled Information Session in Broward County to learn more about the ride. Training rides are also offered several times a month. For a schedule of events visit www.childrensdiagnostic.org/
