Fisher Phillips Attorney Brett Owens Named to Tampa Bay Wave Mentor Network

Fisher Phillips attorney Brett Owens has been named a member of the Mentor Network for the Tampa Bay Wave, a community-driven nonprofit organization that supports the success of Tampa Bay’s tech entrepreneurs and the innovative businesses they are building.

The Tampa Bay Wave was established in 2008 as a peer group for local entrepreneurs and is now a leading tech accelerator in Tampa Bay that supports more than 150 tech startups and 250 entrepreneurs. According to the organization, Wave mentors are essential to furthering their mission because they guide accelerator members through the process of building, launching, and growing a successful tech startup.

Owens is an attorney in the Tampa office of Fisher Phillips, focusing his practice on all aspects of labor and employment law and representing clients in a broad range of industries. He defends employers in various actions brought in state and federal courts, including individual claims of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. Additionally, Owens assists clients with navigating the myriad of federal and state laws governing the employer-employee relationship to ensure compliance and reduce the risk of litigation.

Through his advocacy and strategic approach for clients, his efforts have resulted in numerous voluntary dismissals with prejudice in the early stages of litigation. When necessary, he has also assisted with trying several cases to verdict in state court.

Owens earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Florida Frederic G. Levin College of Law. He also completed a master’s degree in Management and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Florida, Hough Graduate School of Business and graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Advertising from the University of Florida.

He is admitted to practice law in Florida, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Florida.
