The Wellness Center At Broward Health Medical Center Hosts First Annual Health And Wellness Day

3/1/18

The Wellness Center at Broward Health Medical Center recently hosted a fun-filled Health and Wellness Day/Spin-a-thon for the community with over 125 participants and raising more than $15,000 to support the Wellness Center at Broward Health Medical Center and its programs.

“We are very pleased our first annual Health and Wellness Day/Spin-a-thon was so well received by the community,” said Beverly Capasso, president and CEO of Broward Health. “It brought awareness to The Wellness Center as a place where the community can come to improve health and vibrancy, and it demonstrates Broward Health’s overall commitment to providing quality patient care.”

The first annual event took place on Saturday, February 3, 2018, and featured demonstrations for the entire family including a Health Zone with free blood pressure readings, Body Mass Index (BMI) and body fat screenings, as well as nutritional information provided by dietitians. The Kids Zone featured interactive karate, face-painting, and games. A relaxing Zen Zone offered adults Tai Chi demonstrations along with relaxing chair massages. There was also a silent auction and drawings for prizes including electrical cars for kids, Botox® treatments, a wine-tasting party for 20 guests, and gift certificates from local restaurants.

The main event was the Spin‐a‐thon where 26 teams on 26 spin bikes were challenged to keep riding non‐stop for four hours from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There were 89 spinning participants in this high-energy event.

Funds raised at the event will help The Wellness Center at Broward Health Medical Center continue to provide specialized programs including Veterans Yoga, Tai Chi for patients with Parkinson’s disease, classes for seniors and weight loss programs.
