Broward Health Medical Center (BHMC) today announced that is has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for its hip and knee joint replacement program. The Gold Seal of Approval® is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care.
BHMC underwent a rigorous on-site review in December 2017. Joint Commission experts evaluated compliance with national disease-specific care standards as well as with BHMC’s hip and knee joint replacement-specific requirements. Clinical practice guidelines and performance measures also were assessed.
“The Joint Commission has established very high standards when it comes to patient care and this quality designation highlights our dedicated team of caregivers who continue to provide quality joint replacement care to our patients,” said Beverly Capasso, interim president and CEO at Broward Health. ”Patients turn to Broward Health for the very best in orthopedic care and we are proud of the outstanding level of clinical excellence we provide the community.”
Established in 2002 and awarded for a two-year period, The Joint Commission’s Disease-Specific Care Certification evaluates clinical programs across the continuum of care and addresses three core areas:
- Compliance with consensus-based national standards;
- Effective use of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to manage and optimize care; and
- An organized approach to performance measurement and improvement activities.
“BHMC has thoroughly demonstrated a high level of care for patients with hip and knee joint replacement,” said Patrick Phelan, executive director, Hospital Business Development, The Joint Commission. “We commend BHMC for becoming a leader in hip and knee joint replacement care, potentially providing a higher standard of service for these patients in the community.”
