High School students enrolled in Donna Klein Jewish Academy's rigorous Medical Studies Program, affiliated with the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University, will now have the opportunity to learn about careers in medicine through an innovative program at West Boca Medical Center. West Boca Medical Center and Donna Klein Jewish Academy, located within close proximity, have announced an affiliation to augment the program's curriculum with a new clinical component.
Claire and Emanuel G. Rosenblatt High School at DKJA students enrolled in the program’s science-based curriculum will learn alongside medical professionals at the hospital as part of the clinical track. Students in the Medical Studies Program currently have the opportunity experience college-level instruction and protocols from FAU researchers, mentors and educators. The new clinical curriculum will benefit students by providing opportunities for them to engage in hands-on learning opportunities and internships at West Boca Medical Center.
“Having the opportunity to partner with Donna Klein Jewish Academy allows us to shape the future of medicine,” said Mitch Feldman, chief executive officer of West Boca Medical Center. “This program will give students a closer look into the medical profession.”
In 2010, Rosenblatt High School introduced its Pre-Med Program, which in 2016 was augmented through its affiliation with FAU. The restructured Medical Studies Program now permits DKJA High School students who are interested in the fields of medicine and science to participate in educational tours and visits to the FAU campus. The program is designed to offer students an overview of different departments within the hospital over an extended period of time, providing an opportunity to focus on their interests and exposure to specialized medical programs.
“Our affiliation with FAU’s Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine is a model for DKJA's future as we align with cutting-edge, local institutions who are making a mark in their field. I am incredibly thankful to the leadership at FAU, and now West Boca Medical Center, as together we envision a better and stronger future for our institutions,” said Helena Levine, Donna Klein Jewish Academy head of school. “On behalf of DKJA, we would like to extend our appreciation to Maurice Plough, whose support and partnership has made this collaboration possible.”
