Private Pre-K to Fifth Grade school integrates nature with faith-based education

Young Explorers Academy, a new private school offering a unique curriculum that combines nature and outdoor experiences with faith-based education, is set to debut in Naples for the 2017-18 academic year.

Founded by educational leader Isabel C. Alonso, Young Explorers Academy is conceived with the mission to make each child lifelong explorers of nature, knowledge and Christ. Students from Pre-K to Fifth Grade have a chance to discover the outdoors on a beautiful 4.5-acre campus located at 2801 County Barn Road, with the Everglades and the Gulf of Mexico at their doorstep.

The campus is home to numerous athletic fields, a swimming pool and outdoor learning centers.

“We are so excited to bring a one-of-a-kind, all-encompassing learning experience to the children of Naples,” said Alonso. “We believe that children should have the opportunity to learn about the world around them, as well as develop the necessary skills to become lifelong learners. Our gorgeous natural setting truly enhances the education process.”

The leadership of Young Explorers Academy has already formed collaborations with key Naples-area organizations to broaden the curriculum, which includes a strong core of Science, Arts, Mathematics and Language classes.

Young Explorers Academy is teaming up with Ocean Kids of Naples to offer programs focused on water recreational activities. By introducing students to water safety, water sports and marine biology, they foster a responsibility to marine life and learn to handle themselves safely.

The academy has also solidified programs with the Conservancy of Southwest Florida to further augment the development of the science, environment and wildlife curriculum. The goal is to stimulate student curiosity with hands-on outdoor experiences. Programs offered to Young Explorers Academy students include guided nature walks at scenic Naples locations such as Briggs Boardwalk and Clam Pass and fossil digs where students can collect up to 1.2-million-year-old specimens.

Young Explorers Academy was formed by skilled professionals with over 20 years experience in the educational field. The founder is also the Director of Operations atChampagnat Catholic School in Hialeah, FL which has served the Miami-Dade County community for over 45 years.

With the belief that a faith-based education completes the development of any person, the academy looks to offer Catechism classes after school.Students are given the opportunity to further discover Christ through prayer and study of church traditions, the Old Testament and New Testament. Preparation for Catholic Sacraments will also be available for students.
