Genesis Community Health, Inc., a non-profit health center dedicated to serving patients of all economic levels, recently demonstrated that its care and services are carried out with the patient’s needs foremost in mind.
Genesis, which operates two medical centers in Boynton Beach and Boca Raton, earned its Patient-Centered Medical Home Recognition from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), a Washington, D.C.-based, private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving healthcare quality. The recognition was earned at its Boynton Beach location, and it is currently undergoing the same recognition process for its Boca Raton location.
As part of its accreditation and recognition programs, NCQA offers medical centers a strenuous evaluation method to demonstrate their commitment to and practice of patient-centered policies.
The patient-centered medical home is a way of organizing primary care that emphasizes care coordination and communication to transform primary care into “what patients want it to be.” Medical homes where patients have formed a relationship and feel valued can lead to higher quality and lower costs, and can improve patients’ and providers’ experience of care.
Genesis CEO DeAnna Warren gave thanks to the University of Central Florida’s Regional Extension Center for its assistance in helping her staff complete the evaluation process and paperwork. The recognition was earned in late December.
“We are preparing to go for a higher level of care and accreditation,” Warren said. “Achieving a ‘patient-centered’ model is very important, as third-party payers and insurance companies want demonstrated proof that real change is being sought in patient care. These evaluation tools are used to determine if patients’ quality of life and wellness are really improving. We are thrilled to have received this recognition from a national body.”
