Statewide law firm Broad and Cassel today announced the Daily Business Review has named Miami Partner John Haley, Fort Lauderdale Partner Beverly Pohl and Miami Partner David Rosemberg finalists in the 12th Annual Most Effective Lawyers awards. The three were recognized along with more than 60 other honorees.
The Most Effective Lawyers awards recognize attorneys who scored the biggest jury verdicts and settlements or achieved significant decisions affecting public policy or business in 2016. Areas of recognition include Appellate, Bankruptcy, Class Action, Complex/Business Litigation, Corporate Securities, Criminal Law, Government Relations and Regulation, International, Intellectual Property, Medical Malpractice, Personal Injury, Pro Bono, Product Liability, Public Interest, and Real Estate.

John Haley: Haley is a partner in the Miami office of Broad and Cassel and is a member of the firm’s Corporate and Securities Practice Group. His practice focuses on a wide variety of international and domestic transactional matters, including project finance, mergers and acquisitions, private and public offerings of debt and equity securities, secured lending, joint ventures, private equity investments and other finance transactions. He represents sponsors and financial institutions in connection with infrastructure and project financings and has extensive experience in the transportation industry throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Additionally, he has represented clients in cross-border transactions in Eastern and Western Europe and Asia.
He is being recognized in the International category by the DBR for his work on the closing of a financing in the amount of $145 million to fund the construction and operation of Corredor Turístico, a toll road in the Republic of Honduras. This was the first public-private partnership (P3) infrastructure project ever in Honduras. The scope of the project included the rehabilitation and expansion of existing roads, the design and construction of a new road, and the rehabilitation and improvement of two bridges (La Democracia and Santa Rita) located between San Pedro Sula and La Ceiba.
Beverly Pohl: Board Certified in Appellate Practice by The Florida Bar for nearly 15 years, Pohl has extensive experience in a wide variety of civil and criminal appellate matters, in both Florida appellate courts and the federal courts of appeals. Her cases include commercial and general civil litigation, False Claims Act health care litigation, criminal appeals, and First Amendment issues involving commercial speech. Just this year, she was selected as the 2017 Fort Lauderdale Appellate Law "Lawyer of the Year" by "The Best Lawyers in America®". Pohl is the chair of the firm’s statewide Appellate Law Practice Group.
She is being recognized as a finalist in the Appellate category for her work in representing plaintiff MSP Recovery on appeal before the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. The decision opens the door for MSP Recovery to bring forth a substantial number of cases all across the country to ensure the Medicare Trust Fund does not suffer for medical bills not owned by it.
David Rosemberg: A partner in the Miami office, Rosemberg is a member of the firm’s Commercial Litigation, Intellectual Property, and International Law Practice Groups. Named a Florida Rising Star by Super Lawyers Magazine in 2016, David is a frequent speaker on trademark infringement and contributory liability, among other topics. In 2014, he represented Coach, Inc. in one of the most important and publicized counterfeiting cases in Florida – Coach, Inc. v. Swap Shop, Inc., et. al. Currently, David serves as president of the Inter-American Chapter of The United States-Mexico Chamber of Commerce and is the immediate past president of the Bakehouse Art Complex.
Rosemberg is being recognized in the Intellectual Property category for his work in serving as lead counsel to Luxottica Group and Oakley, Inc. in Luxottica Group S.p.A. v. Airport Mini Mall, LLC, et. al. According to Rosemberg, this may be the first time in which a court has recognized the application of the doctrine of contributory trademark infringement to a landlord that wasn’t also the flea market owner/operator.
