“Behind the Badge: What’s it feels like to be a police officer in a Post-Ferguson world? The chiefs’ perspective” Panel Discussion to Take Place on Dec. 1
Eric Hockman, partner at Weiss Serota Helfman Cole & Bierman is spearheading efforts for the Dade County Bar Association Government Relations Committee to host a panel discussion on police and the community. Victoria Mendez, City Attorney for Miami is co-chairing the event with him, titled “Behind the Badge: What’s it feel like to be a police officer in a Post-Ferguson world? The chiefs’ perspective.”
On the panel will be the Chief Stephen Steinberg of Aventura, Chief Dexter Williams of Miramar and Chief Rudolfo Llanes of Miami.
“We are hoping to educate members of the legal community and the public about what policing the community really means, and how important it is to be aware of the challenges and concerns that face our men and women in blue every day,” Hockman said. “We expect friendly discussion and intelligent insight – and hope to come away with new information that will help the communication process for law enforcement.”
The panel discussion will be held on December 1, 2016, at the Hyatt Regency 400 SE 2nd Avenue in Miami. Networking will begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by lunch and the panel. The event is open to the public. Cost is $55 for DCBA members, $65 for non-DCBA members.
Hockman serves on the Board of Directors for the Dade County Bar Association and as co-chair of the Government Relations Committee. He has been on the board since 2012 and was elected to the Executive Committee for the 2014-2015 term. He was previously appointed to the Florida Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Aviation Law. He also participates on the Beacon Council Aviation Committee.
