Skanska USA announced today it will renovate and expand the 23-acre Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park, which will provide open green spaces for the community to congregate, dine, experience outdoor concerts and events, and stroll along Tampa’s expanded river walk.
The $35.6 million reconstruction project, overlooking the Hillsborough River, will include improvements and reconfigurations to the existing seawall along with floating docks to provide water access for kayaks, boating and aquatic sports.
Situated in West Tampa, adjacent to the University of Tampa campus, the park will serve as an urban oasis for the entire community to enjoy various outdoor activities once completed by the end of 2017. The park’s renovation and expansion project will feature a River Center Building adjacent to the Hillsborough River and add several new amenities for the community to enjoy such as tennis courts, basketball and sand volleyball courts, a multi-use football field, areas for lacrosse and soccer, as well as a performance pavilion and green spaces for concerts.
“This represents one of the biggest projects to take shape in West Tampa in decades and one that will benefit the entire region as residents and visitors will get to enjoy this public space for years to come,” said Chuck Jablon, Senior Vice President at Skanska USA Building. “The park’s renovation and expansion will bring new life to the waterfront with sports, entertainment and aquatic activities that the entire community will get to experience.”
Skanska is building the $122 million renovation and expansion of the Tampa International Airport’s main passenger terminal and a $62.7 million research and education facility on the Johns Hopkins Medicine All Children’s Hospital campus in St. Petersburg. With a long-term commitment to the Tampa Bay region, Skanska has also built projects such as the $225 million rebuilding and widening project of Interstate 275; the Tampa Museum of Art; Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park; and Kiley Gardens.
