Trenam Law announces that firm president and founding shareholder Harold “Hal” W. Mullis has been awarded with the President’s Fellow Medallion by the University of South Florida, an honor given by USF System President Judy Genshaft to highly distinguished individuals. The award was given to Mullis on Saturday, August 6, 2016, during USF’s Summer 2016 commencement ceremony. Loretta Ford, a renowned nursing innovator credited as co-founder of the nurse practitioner role, was also recognized with the President’s Fellow Medallion.

“This prestigious recognition not only reflects Hal’s service and contributions to USF, but also his commitment to the service and betterment of Tampa’s business community as a whole,” said J. Eric (“Tate”) Taylor, chair of the Executive Board of Trenam. “Hal’s record of success and selfless pursuit of excellence for every organization he touches has made the Tampa Bay region a better place to live and do business. He is an inspiration for everyone here at Trenam.”

Mullis has an extensive resume of leadership in the Tampa Bay business community, which led to his induction in the 2015 class of the Tampa Bay Business Hall of Fame. He recently completed a two-year term as chair of the USF Board of Trustees, during which more than $60 million in major gifts were announced for USF and research funding increased to more than $440 million. In addition to his continued service on the board of trustees, Mullis has served in several other leadership positions throughout the Tampa Bay community, including as board chairman for Tampa General Hospital and Berkeley Preparatory School, as well as a member of the board of governors for the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce.

The University of South Florida’s President’s Fellow Medallion was created in the 1988 fall academic year and is awarded at the discretion of USF’s president. More information about the award and ceremony is available in the USF announcement here.

Mullis earned his undergraduate degree from Emory University and his law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law.
