Cushman & Wakefield Recognized for Largest Annual Fundraising Gains Benefitting Type 1 Diabetes Research
Cushman & Wakefield announced today that it has been recognized by JDRF for its efforts supporting One Walk, an event which raises funds for scientific research to better treat, prevent and ultimately cure type 1 diabetes.
The 5K walk drew over 4,500 participants on April 2 at Amalie Arena and raised more than $600,000. Cushman & Wakefield was honored for securing the largest year-over-year corporate fundraising gains. The firm raised more than $14,000 in support of JDRF at this year’s event, a 55 percent increase over its fundraising efforts in 2015.
JDRF (formerly the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes research. Its stated mission is to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat type 1 diabetes and its complications.
Leading the charge for Cushman & Wakefield was Tim Rivers, Managing Director of Investor Services for the state of Florida and JDRF Tampa Bay chapter President.
Rivers’ son Jake was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2002. In the intervening years, Rivers and his family have raised more than $600,000 in support of JDRF. Jake graduated from high school this spring and will be attending Oglethorpe University in Atlanta this fall where he will study engineering and play baseball.
When Rivers joined Cushman & Wakefield in 2013, he was able to marry his passion for the cause with a groundswell of support from his colleagues within the firm. Cushman & Wakefield has been a regular on the JDRF fundraising front since, sponsoring events such as the Night of Hope Gala and All-In for Type None Casino Night.
“This cause is obviously paramount to our family,” said Rivers. “We are incredibly grateful to everyone at Cushman & Wakefield and the Greater Tampa Bay community for supporting JDRF through the years.”
“These donations make a tremendous difference in the everyday lives of those battling type 1 diabetes,” added Rivers. “They help fund better technologies and treatments, and there are some truly promising developments on the horizon. But there is still much work to be done and we will not stop until we have the cure.”
