Bill Cheng
Carlton Fields Associate Bill Cheng recently earned the designation of Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US), the global standard in privacy certification, through the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
Cheng received his CIPP/US designation upon passing both the Certification Foundation and CIPP/US examinations. By earning this credential, he demonstrated knowledge of:
- U.S. privacy and security laws, regulations, standards, and enforcement models as they pertain to the private sector, including those related to health/medical information, financial information, educational information, telecommunications, marketing, and workplace privacy
- Essential privacy concepts and principles and their practical applications
- Legal requirements for the responsible handling and transferring of sensitive personal data to/from the US, the EU, and other jurisdictions

Cheng is located in the Miami office of Carlton Fields where he practices in the areas of federal and international tax, providing counsel on both inbound and outbound cross-border tax planning matters for entities and high-net worth individuals. Cheng also counsels clients on general corporate law and securities law matters and he has particular interest in the areas of privacy and cybersecurity.
Cheng received his LL.M. in Taxation and J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. He received his M.S. and B.S. from New York University.
