Florida’s Largest Voluntary Bar Association Appoints Two Colson Hicks Eidson Attorneys

Attorneys Patrick Montoya and Latoya Brown of the Coral Gables-based law firm Colson Hicks Eidson, have been elected to the Board of Directors for the Dade County Bar Association (DCBA). Montoya will serve as a Director for Group 3, and Brown will serve as a Director for Group 1 for a second term.

The largest voluntary bar association in Florida, and the voice for Miami Dade County’s diverse legal community, the DCBA is dedicated to promoting the administration of justice, professionalism and civility, and to cultivating positive relationships among members of the Bar.

As Director, Montoya seeks to expand programming in the areas of Diversity, Inclusion and Put Something Back. Similarly, Brown plans to further the DCBA’s mission of creating targeted programming focused on addressing the various challenges the legal profession currently faces.

A total of 1,462 ballots were cast in the election. Montoya and Brown will be sworn in along with the other elected officers and directors on June 4 at the JW Marriott Miami.

Montoya focuses his practice on general personal injury litigation, commercial litigation, products liability, class action, wrongful death and aviation law. He lectures nationally to attorneys and paralegals on a variety of legal issues and is a former adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Law in the Legal Research and Writing program. He served as president of the Miami Chapter of the American Inns of Court and served on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida’s Ad Hoc Committee on Rules and Procedures. He is a fellow of the American Bar Association and currently serves as co-chair of the Davidson College Alumni Chapter for South Florida. He is also a past recipient of the Dade Community Foundation’s “Donor Next Door” Award for volunteerism. Montoya received his Bachelor’s degree from Davidson College and his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Miami, where he graduated cum laude, and was a member of the Inter American Law Review and the University of Miami Moot Court Board.

Brown practices in the areas of commercial litigation, class action lawsuits, and general civil litigation. She is a member of the Florida Bar, a published author, and a magna cum laude graduate of Florida International University College of Law, where she served as the comments/articles editor of the FIU Law Review and a member of the FIU Moot Court Board. Prior to joining Colson Hicks Eidson, Brown interned with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and as a judicial intern for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida. Recently, she founded a community outreach initiative aimed at exposing underprivileged students to the practice of law.
