American Fair Credit Council Appoints Denise Dunckel as Chief Executive Officer

1/27/21

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The American Fair Credit Council today announced that Denise Dunckel has been named Chief Executive Officer (CEO). With more than 20 years of experience in both the public and private sector, Denise has a diverse well of knowledge to call upon, from Fortune 100 corporations and start-ups to her time spent spearheading communications and congressional affairs for government agencies and the White House.

“I am honored to lead the talented team at the AFCC which has done incredible work supporting consumers and advocating on behalf of the debt settlement industry,” said Dunckel. “I look forward to ensuring consumers continue to have access to debt settlement as an option to reduce their debt while also supporting the AFCC’s mission to promote and enforce ‘best practices’ for debt relief providers.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Denise as she brings decades of leadership experience that will be essential to the success of the AFCC,” said AFCC President Robby H. Birnbaum. “Denise’s vision and expertise will not only strengthen the AFCC’s mission but also enhance our capabilities to support consumers struggling with debt.”

Founded in 2011, the AFCC is the largest association of industry-leading companies advocating for effective and proven debt relief solutions for consumers. AFCC member companies, in their dedication to helping consumers find their way back on the road to financial independence, adhere to a strict set of mandatory consumer protection standards, audited by a third party, that exceed state and federal requirements.

Throughout her career, Denise has driven key issues and organizational priorities from their initial development to their public deployment. She has provided her counsel and insight to Cabinet Secretaries, trade association leaders, C-suite executives, nonprofit figures, and elected officials across Washington, D.C. During her time at the Federal Housing Finance Agency, she built a consumer education campaign from the ground up to aid and inform homeowners struggling with a decline in their home’s value caused by the 2008 housing crisis. In total, this single program allowed approximately 3.5 million Americans to refinance their homes. After her move across the country, Denise shifted gears and joined a small start-up, which has helped its clients and consumers better determine single-family housing values, saving millions and modernizing the outdated residential valuations system.

About the American Fair Credit Council

The American Fair Credit Council (AFCC) is the national association of professional debt settlement companies. The AFCC and its member companies work on behalf of consumers struggling with overwhelming burdens of unsecured debt to settle those debts for less than their full balance. The AFCC has developed a strict Code of Conduct centered on “best practices” designed to protect the rights of consumers and requires member companies to follow stringent regulatory guidelines for operation. All AFCC members operate on a “No Advance Fee Model” and never charge a fee for services until a consumer’s debt has been successfully negotiated.
