Israel Villanueva, MD, MBA, Joins Intercept TeleMed as Chief Medical Officer

MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Israel Villanueva, MD, MBA, has been named Chief Medical Officer for Intercept TeleMed, which offers comprehensive and affordable tele-ICU services for hospitals across the country, in addition to tele-ED/ER, tele-psych and tele-trauma surgery support and other services.

Dr. Villanueva is board-certified in both internal medicine and critical care medicine and has extensive bedside clinical experience as an internist, hospitalist and intensivist. He has also worked as a tele-critical care physician, developing an intimate knowledge of tele-critical care processes and benefits. Dr. Villanueva will oversee all clinical aspects of Intercept TeleMed’s services and work with the company’s client hospitals to help them achieve the highest standards of patient care in their ICUs.

Dr. Villanueva came to Intercept TeleMed from Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, where he served as Intensivist Medical Director, developing an intensivist program for the hospital and gaining valuable insight into the challenges of rural medicine. Before that, he was an intensivist at Ventura County Medical Center in Ventura, California, and served as an associate ICU Director at St. John’s Hospitals of Oxnard and Camarillo, California, where he led a multidisciplinary team that instituted best practices for critical care in a newly established intensivist program. In conjunction with his bedside clinical duties, Dr. Villanueva has been a tele-critical care physician for Banner Health.

After completing a bachelor of arts degree in biology at Harvard University, Dr. Villanueva earned his medical degree at the NYU School of Medicine. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center and his fellowship in critical care medicine at Stanford University. Additionally, he earned a Healthcare Executive MBA at the University of California at Irvine.
