Palm Beach Symphony Appoints Y. Michele Kang to its Board of Directors

Founder and CEO of Cognosante®, the Cognosante Foundation and Cognosante Ventures joins the major cultural institution at the start of a transformative season

Palm Beach Symphony is pleased to announced Y. Michele Kang, Founder and CEO of Cognosante® and the Cognosante Foundation, has joined its board of directors.

“One of the most powerful and respected female CEOs in the country, Michele is a technology leader that is helping to fundamentally transform how health and human services programs are delivered in this country, and she lives her values through her philanthropy with the creation of life-altering pathways for underserved veterans and young adults,” said Palm Beach Symphony Board Chair Leslie Rose. “Her renowned ability to offer dynamic, fresh perspectives that propel progress will be a tremendous asset and we are excited she has chosen to join our board.”

Kang joins the Symphony at the start of its landmark 46th season.The major arts institution continues its rise to new heights with the arrival of award-winning classical musician and conductor Gerard Schwarz as music director, improved programming with world-class artists, record-breaking ticket sales and increased donor enthusiasm and support.

“The impact Palm Beach Symphony has in thecommunity is vitally important,” Kang said. “Last season, the Symphony served more than 17,500 students including through STEAM nights that combined arts with STEM learning experiences to excite and inspire future leaders. I look forward to working with the Symphony as we pioneer new ways to forge connections through the arts.”

A visionary in the field of health information technology, Kang founded Cognosante in 2008 to disrupt and challenge the status quo in the U.S. healthcare system. Under her leadership, Cognosante has emerged as one of the most trusted partners of key Federal and state health agencies, while growing rapidly over the past ten years.

With a mission to promote the dignity of work, the Cognosante Foundation was established in 2012 to focus on supporting individuals from underserved communities as they pursue financial independence through meaningful careers.

Palm Beach Atlantic University recently honored Kang with the 2019 American Free Enterprise Medal.Her other numerous accolades and honors include: 2015 EY Entrepreneur of The Year® for the Washington, D.C. region, the U.S. Award for Services, inaugural membership in 100 Women Leaders in STEM in 2012 and as one of the “Top 100 CEO Leaders in STEM” in 2016.

A champion of the Kennedy Center International Committee on the Arts, Kang is also a member of the Board of Governors for the American Red Cross,and a member of the Board of Directors for Northern Virginia Technology Council. She earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Chicago and a master’s degree in public and private management from Yale School of Management.
