Neuberger Co-Lead’s Firm’s Nationwide Legal Team Advising Clients on Navigating the Growing Cannabis Industry

Foley & Lardner LLP is pleased to announce that attorney Mark J. Neuberger, Of Counsel based in the firm’s Miami office, has been appointed co-chair of the firm’s Cannabis Industry Team.

As co-chair, Neuberger assists in coordinating the firm’s multi-disciplinary practice across 24 offices to advise clients in the cannabis industry on all aspects of the business, including navigating the complexities of federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

Foley’s Cannabis Industry Team, which is made up of more than 60 attorneys nationwide and in Mexico City, brings together experienced legal advisors with varying expertise to offer clients a multidisciplinary approach and provide advice on best practices surrounding corporate formation and finance, joint ventures, tax strategies, industry-focused compliance programs, patent and intellectual property protections, real estate leasing, multistate licensing, SEC compliance, and matters of government investigations involving the Department of Justice, the SEC, and other enforcement authorities.

Foley’s Cannabis Industry Team has played a key role in some of the country’s highest profile transactions for many of the most recognized names in the industry, including KeyGene, Acreage Holdings, High Life Farms, Mjardin Group, Teewinot Life Sciences, Stem Holdings, Inc., Oregon State University, and Innovative Industrial Properties.

As a member of the firm’s Labor & Employment, Private Equity & Venture Capital Practices and Health Care Industry Team, Neuberger frequently advises employers on job applicant drug testing and ADA compliance in connection with medical use; as well as health care providers on their roles as caregivers to patients using medical or recreational cannabis, including policies and procedures and liability/risk issues.

Neuberger co-leads the team along with partners Robert S. Eppen based in Foley’s Boston office and Rohan A. Virginkar in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.

He earned his Juris Doctorate degree from Duquesne University and his Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University. He is admitted to practice in Florida, Pennsylvania and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
