Artist rendering of the new $116 million hospital in Teruel, Spain, where IBT of Miami’s parent company, Eurofinsa, will perform interior and exterior finishes.

IBT of Miami’s parent company, Eurofinsa, a global construction firm that specializes in public infrastructure, was awarded a joint-venture contract for the second phase of a $116 million hospital that will serve a population of 75,000 in northeastern Spain.

“We are proud to bring our experience in building modern hospitals to the second phase of a new hospital in Teruel, Spain, which will better serve the health needs of the city’s population and the surrounding area,” said Daniel Toledano, managing director and chief operating officer of IBT.

Eurofinsa will be responsible for the exterior finishes of the 223,097-square-foot hospital and the demarcation of inside space, including creation of the façades, roofs, tiling, interior partitions, vertical wall coatings, false ceilings and all exterior and interior finish work. The second phase of the new hospital, which replaces the existing Obispo Polanco Hospital, will begin in 2020 with an estimated execution time of 34 months.

The government of Aragon, an autonomous region, awarded the joint venture contract to Eurofinsa and another global firm, Construcciones Rubau. The city of Teruel, known in the culinary world for cured hams, is the capital of the province that bears the same name. The planned four-story building is designed to be resistant to seismic movement with rooftop spaces to store technical equipment.

The new hospital will contain 246 hospital beds, a surgery unit with eight operating theaters; day clinics for surgery, medical, oncology, and psychiatry; a kidney dialysis unit, a large emergency unit, and new pathology, microbiology and clinical analysis laboratories.

IBT and Eurofinsa have a long history in the renovation and construction of hospitals in numerous Latin American countries, including the noteworthy construction of Anita Moreno Hospital in Panama, Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia Hospital in the Dominican Republic, San Miguel Hospital in El Salvador, and Pacasmayo Hospital in Peru. All were equipped to offer the highest level of health care.
