Gino Santorio
The North Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners has named Gino Santorio acting CEO of Broward Health. Santorio, who has been executive vice president and chief operating officer of Broward Health since 2017, will assume the acting CEO position immediately.
“I’m very proud of the significant accomplishments made in the past year at Broward Health,” said Santorio. “I’m humbled by the overwhelming support to lead the district, and I’m excited to work with our stakeholders, both internal and external, as we continue to focus on the quality of care and financial performance.”
Beverly Capasso, who resigned as President/CEO of Broward Health on Oct. 3, 2018, will remain with Broward Health in a consultative role until January 2019 to assist with Santorio’s transition. During that time, the North Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners will determine next steps for permanently filling the role of President/CEO of Broward Health.
Santorio is known for his experience in turnaround management. Since joining Broward Health, Santorio has established significant changes that have positively impacted the stability of the healthcare system. As executive vice president and chief operating officer, Santorio oversaw nearly $1.2 billion in operating revenue and more than 62,000 inpatient admissions during fiscal year 2017 and helped the system save more than $31 million in contract renegotiations, operational improvements and a reduction in labor costs.
Before joining Broward Health in September 2017, Santorio served as senior vice president and chief executive officer for Jackson North Medical Center and was VP/COO of Jackson Memorial Hospital. He has served as COO and CFO/Hospital Compliance Officer at Spring Hill Regional Hospital in Spring Hill, Florida, and Assistant CFO at Brooksville Regional Hospital.
Santorio has a master’s degree in public administration from the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy at the University of Albany in New York, a bachelor’s degree in business leadership from Le Moyne College in Syracuse, New York, where he graduated magna cum laude, and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), a professional certification sponsored by the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).
