(L-R): Joanne B. Nowlin, Regional Chief Executive Officer, American Red Cross – South Florida Region; Rich Helber, CEO/President of Tropical Financial Credit Union; Paul Prendergast, Executive Director, American Red Cross-Broward Chapter
The American Red Cross-Broward Chapter has recognized Tropical Financial Credit Union CEO/President Rich Helber for his volunteer work during Hurricane Irma.
During the devastating storm last year, the Red Cross supported emergency management departments to activate evacuation shelters throughout Broward, Miami-Dade and the Florida Keys. Helber served as an Elected Official Liaison for five western municipalities in Broward County. His role, along with other volunteer EOLs, was to keep elected officials apprised of the agency’s disaster response plan.
Helber, who serves as chairman of the Broward chapter’s board of directors, was given an award for his efforts, along with other storm volunteers.
“I want to thank Rich and other volunteers who took a break for their own personal storm preparations to make sure the people of Broward County were cared for during hurricane Irma,” said Paula Prendergast, executive director, Broward Chapter. “Their work was invaluable and much appreciated.”
