Heather Geronemus
MADD National Board Member Returns as Volunteer Chairperson of the 8th AnnualWalk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K
Effective January 1, 2018, Heather Geronemus, National Board Member of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and Founder & Volunteer Chairperson of the Annual Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K, has been named Vice Chair of MADD’s 2018 National Board.
Following the loss of her father, Dr. Robert Perry Geronemus, to a drunk driver in 2009, Geronemus took a leadership role in the Broward Chapter of the Mothers Against Drunk Driving organization. In 2011, she established and chaired the Annual Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K, now in its eighth year. These events have raised more than $1.5 million to date for MADD Broward and Palm Beach, the most money raised by any MADD chapter. As a result of these efforts, Geronemus has received the MADD Florida Hero Award twice for outstanding achievement.
In addition, she regularly represents MADD with local, state and federal elected officials, traveling to Washington D.C. to meet with Florida’s Congressional and Senatorial delegations. Geronemus’ efforts were recognized at MADD’s national conference where she was awarded the Linda Kitazaki Volunteer Fundraising Award, MADD’s highest honor. She was also named Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser of the Year by the Association of Fundraising Professionals at their National Philanthropy Day for her work with MADD Broward. She is proud to have a seat on the National Board of Directors where she now serves as Vice Chair.
Geronemus returns in her role as the volunteer chairperson for the 8th Annual 2018 La Croix & Lennox National Account Services Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K brought to You by Ultimate Software on Sunday, April 29, 2018. This event is MADD Broward County’s annual signature fundraising event in support of its mission to end drunk driving. Featuring the slogan "Drunk Driving Ends Here," the walk encourages people to literally take steps to end drunk driving. MADD also recently launched its first-ever tagline: “No More Victims.” The event takes place in over 60 cities in the U.S., including Fort Lauderdale.
