Jonathan Axler has been named Education & Programs Coordinator for the Historic Stranahan House Museum, Broward County’s oldest and most historic surviving structure.

In his new role, Axler is responsible for all aspects of the educational programs including school tours, community programs, outreach and distance learning. Additionally, he will oversee the team of volunteers and help create temporary museum exhibits for Stranahan House.

“Undoubtedly Jonathan is knowledgeable and passionate about history,” said Historic Stranahan House Museum Executive Director April Kirk. “What’s more is that he understands the importance of preserving local historical landmarks and providing education about the natural and cultural heritage of South Florida. He is a wonderful addition to our team.”

A South Florida native, Axler previously served as museum assistant at the Plantation Historical Museum and gallery curator at Flamingo Gardens, a 60-acre wildlife sanctuary, aviary and botanical garden in Davie.

With an enthusiasm for history, teaching and learning, Axler frequently volunteers with the Palm Beach Museum of Natural History Society, Broward County Historical Commission, Fort Lauderdale History Center, San Luis Mission Historical Site, Fort Lauderdale Museum of Discovery & Science, Broward County Film Society, Fort Lauderdale Naval Air Museum, Collins Farm Park and South Florida Scottish Festival.

Axler earned his Bachelor of Arts from Florida Atlantic University. He is a resident of Davie.
