Ann Burris and Shawn Sackman have been named to the Board of Directors for the Broward Performing Arts Foundation.

An ardent supporter of the Broward Center for a number of years, Ann Burris is a member of both the Founders’ Club and the Sterling Society. Among her numerous volunteer activities, Ann previously served as a board member of Seafarers’ House, serving as chair of the organization’s annual Golden Compass Award Dinner for four years, raising $250,000 annually. She also served as a board member of St. Mark’s Episcopal School and as chair of underwriting for St. Thomas Aquinas High School for two years, resulting in the highest ever sponsorship contribution of more than $205,000. Ann identifies, negotiates and manages nonprofit relationships for the premier cruise line Holland America Line in the South Florida market. She has more than 20 years of experience as a telecommunications executive, with expertise in sales management, customer service and marketing, and travel industry public and community relations. She is a resident of Fort Lauderdale.

With more than 13 years of commercial banking industry experience, Shawn Sackman joined SunTrust Bank in 2004 and was named Broward County Market President in 2011. SunTrust Bank has supported the Broward Center for 30 years, providing significant representation on the Foundation board over the years, including founding chairman Robert Lochrie, Jr. and more recently Margaret Callihan. Active in many South Florida organizations, Shawn currently serves as a board member of Junior Achievement of Broward County, Urban League of Broward County and the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance. He was previously a board member of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce. Shawn is a resident of Parkland.

For more than 25 years, the Broward Performing Arts Foundation has been instrumental in providing support for the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. The Foundation was established in 1985 to deliver the required private funding to build the Center and create an endowment to sustain its operations. Over the years, the Foundation has successfully raised funds to support the Broward Center’s innovative and diverse programming, arts-in-education initiatives, community engagement activities and capital projects. Most recently, the Foundation raised $60 million to complete the Encore! capital campaign to renovate, renew and revitalize the Broward Center.
