Roger Kobert, a commercial litigation partner with the law firm of Weiss Serota Helfman Cole & Bierman, has been elected Vice Chairman of the International Law Section of the Federal Bar Association for 2017-2018. He is completing his two-term tenure as Treasurer of the section.
The International Law Section provides speaker programs on international legal subjects such as trade, banking and finance, development, investment, claims disputes, natural resources, the environment and human rights. It also publishes articles on international legal subjects; assists people in other nations with United States legal talent to further the cause of peace and democracy; and furthers the development and enforcement of human rights principles.
“I enjoy serving the FBA International Law Section and working with the attorneys and judges who share a passion for this sector of law,” said Kobert, who has practiced private and public international law for 29 years. “I am happy to take on the role of Vice Chairman, and to further the section’s important mission.” Throughout his career, he has been active in the international law, trial, and litigation sections of the Federal, Florida and American Bar Associations, including numerous committees and conferences.
Kobert is a senior trial attorney and Chair of the firm’s International Practice Group. He has extensive experience litigating, trying, arbitrating and appealing cases for private and public clients. He has developed an outstanding reputation in cross-border counseling and advocacy, and as an expert witness on matters of U.S. law in foreign proceedings. He has advised foreign governments on matters of U.S. law and sovereign immunity, with an emphasis on jurisdictional contests.
Kobert is rated AV® Preeminent 5.0/5.0 by Martindale-Hubbell. He is an active member of the American Bar Association’s International Law Section, and a member of The Florida Bar’s Trial Lawyers and International Law Sections. Kobert has been named a Florida SuperLawyer, Florida Trend’s Legal Elite, and American Lawyer’s Top Rated Commercial & Business Lawyers list. In addition, he is active in Greater Miami Jewish Federation, the American Jewish Committee, the Florida Bar Foundation and served as past chair of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Corporate Olympics.
Kobert earned his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania and his J.D. from the University of MiamiSchool of Law.
