The Council for Educational Change has appointed Michael W. Kornahrens and Douglas A. Harrison to its Board of Directors. Mr. Kornahrens and Mr. Harrison’s leadership skills and passion for education will help further the Council’s mission across the state of Florida.

The Weston-based Council for Educational Change is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the leadership team in Florida schools by creating programs that help principals improve student achievement. To achieve its mission, the Council partners business executive with school principals. Under the CEO/principal partnership, the partners design and develop targeted strategies that enable students to graduate with the education and training necessary to obtain meaningful local employment.

“Mr. Kornahrens and Mr. Harrisson’s passion for improving education in our public schools makes them a great fit for the Council for Educational Change’s Board of Directors,” said Dr. Elaine Liftin, President and Executive Director of the Council for Educational Change.

Mr. Kornahrens currently serves as Co-Founder and President of Advanced Green Technologies, where he builds solar rooftop and carport solutions for the customer throughout North America. He is responsible for successfully completing more than 250 Megawatts of renewable energy projects and is a driving force behind why Solar Builder Magazine has chosen Advanced Green Technologies as a Top Solar Contractor in North America from 2012 to 2016. He graduated with B.S. in Business Administration from Florida Atlantic University and has more than 15-years of experience working in the commercial roofing, solar, and construction industries.

Mr. Harrison serves as the Assistant City Attorney for the City of Miami and as Commissioner at South Broward Hospital District. As Commissioner, he defines the mission and vision of the South Broward Hospital District / Memorial Healthcare System by setting policy, providing oversight to the President and Chief Executive Officer, and is the fiduciary of the country’s 4^th largest public community hospital system.

Over the last 13 years, the Council’s innovative approach to improving public education one school at a time has impacted the future of 1.54 million students, more than 39,000 teachers, 5,075 school-based leaders and 885 schools in Florida’s 67 school districts, especially in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Hillsborough, Pinellas and Duval. These two important additions to our Board assure that our commitment to quality education will continue to positively influence Florida schools.
