Paul A. Markowski
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Paul A. Markowski, CAE, a business executive with three decades of experience in association management for some of the nation’s premier medical organizations, is joining the Jacksonville, Florida-based American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) as the organization’s new Chief Executive Officer.
Markowski will assume responsibility for the position on May 7, replacing Donald C. Jones, who is retiring after serving as AACE CEO for over 20 years.
Markowski most recently was Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST), a professional association of physicians and allied health providers that champions the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of chest disease through education, communication and research. At CHEST, he increased membership significantly and developed new programming and revenue opportunities that generated a substantial increase in organizational profit.
Prior to his tenure at CHEST, he was Deputy Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery/Foundation (AAO-HNS/F), the world’s largest professional association representing specialists in the treatment of the ear, throat and related structures of the head and neck.
He also worked for the American Medical Association (AMA) for 15 years in several different capacities including Director of Federation Relations, Advocacy Campaign Manager and Director of CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) Intellectual Property Services, playing a key role in establishing CPT as the global standard for physician reimbursement.
“Paul is an accomplished proven leader who is comfortable driving an agenda and building high-performing teams while also balancing his responsibilities to the association’s board of directors and member physicians dedicated to the specialty of endocrinology and metabolism,” said Dr. George Grunberger, FACP, FACE, AACE Immediate Past President and Chair of AACE’s CEO Search Committee. “He is a CEO capable of generating ideas, setting strategy and working with our leadership to fully realize our organization’s potential.”
“We searched long and hard to find someone to fill Don Jones’ shoes, and we’re confident we found the person whose skills and experience will support our organization’s mission and growth in the future,” said Dr. Pauline Camacho, FACE, President of AACE. “We’re very much looking forward to working with Paul.”
"I'm excited and honored for the opportunity to work with such a strong organization like AACE,” Markowski said. “I look forward to partnering with the Board, leadership and staff to continue to build on the strong foundation established by AACE under Don Jones' leadership."
