Elkin Alfred and Joyce Mealey have been named co-chairs of Emerge Broward, a program of Leadership Broward that promotes leadership and personal development among young professionals through networking, community involvement and educational opportunities.

As co-chairs, Alfred and Mealey will oversee the executive committee, coordinate communication and provide support to the four committees that make up the program, as well as serve as liaisons between Emerge Broward and Leadership Broward, the premier leadership development training organization.

“Emerge Broward is an excellent opportunity for young professionals to develop skills that will help them thrive professionally and personally,” said Michael Gaylor, Ed.D., “Elkin and Joyce have stepped up in volunteering to lead this program which will further the initiative of making a difference in the community.”

A Pompano Beach resident, Alfred has dedicated her life to a career in social services. She is a prevention specialist at United Way of Broward County and serves as the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Coordinator for Broward County. Alfred has been an active member of Emerge Broward for two years and also is a board member of Debbie’s Dream Foundation and a member of her alumni chapter of Delta Eta Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Alfred received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Central Florida.

Mealey of Fort Lauderdale is a public relations manager at Conceptual Communications. In addition to Emerge Broward, she has also been involved in Cocktails for Humanity and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). Mealey received a bachelor’s degree in communications from Washington State University.
