Former Florida Assistant Attorney General Adds Depth to Firm’s Litigation and Class Action Practices

Attorney Maxine K. Streeter has joined Genovese Joblove & Battista, P.A. (GJB) as Of Counsel in the firm’s Ft. Lauderdale office. With more than 25 years of experience prosecuting and defending a range of complex matters, Streeter enhances the firm’s commercial litigation and civil class action practices. Streeter focuses her practice on complex commercial and class action litigation and represents plaintiffs and defendants in a wide range of civil cases in the areas of fraud, civil theft, negligence, negligent misrepresentation, contracts and general business litigation. She was a key member of the litigation team that represented a group of plaintiffs (Razorback Funding, L.L.C. et al. v. Scott W. Rothstein, et al.) seeking recovery of more than $250 million in investor losses resulting from a billion dollar structure settlement Ponzi scheme orchestrated by former Florida attorney Scott Rothstein. After months of litigation, the matter was resolved through settlement resulting in a significant recovery for victims of the scheme.

A former government attorney, Streeter served as a senior litigator for the Office of the Florida Attorney General for eight years. She was appointed in 1997 by former Florida Attorney General Robert Butterworth. There, Streeter represented the State of Florida as lead counsel in a number of high profile and sensitive statewide class actions as well as in a number of civil rights defense matters tried in state and federal court. Within the Economic Crimes unit, she focused primarily on protecting consumers and represented the Office of the Attorney General in civil prosecution of business and individuals for unscrupulous business dealings involving civil theft, fraud, price gouging and deceptive trade practices. As part of the Civil Litigation Unit, she represented the state, specifically the Florida Department of Corrections, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the Florida Department of Children and Families, in civil rights defense matters. Prior to joining the Office of the Attorney General, Streeter practiced securities litigation for 7 years with the firm of Stein, Rosenberg & Winikoff.

A third-generation Broward County native, Streeter is committed to giving back to the South Florida community. She volunteers her time at the PACE Broward Center for Girls, and helps the Wildlife Care Center, Broward County Animal Control and is a member of the Fort Lauderdale Orchid Society.

Streeter is also active in a number of professional organizations, including serving on the 17th Judicial Circuit Professionalism Panel; the Stephen R. Booher American Inn of Court, Master of the Bench; the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, Faculty, Building Trial Skills; and the Broward County Women Lawyers Association. She also serves as an adjunct professor at Nova Southeastern University, Shepard Broad School of Law where she teaches on the subject of trial advocacy.

She earned her law degree in 1991, from Nova University Shepard Broad School of Law, where she was on Law Review, and earned her bachelor of arts from University of Florida in 1985.
