Daniel Stermer of Development Specialists Inc. has been named receiver to recover assets and refund money to individuals allegedly scammed by a company pretending to remove threats to their personal computers.

Stermer, managing director in the financial consulting and advisory firm’s South Florida office, has been appointed receiver in a number of notorious cases including Hess Kennedy – the debt settlement/management law firm scam, the Gold Bullion Exchange Ponzi scheme and the Virtual Cash Card unregistered securities offering.

The Florida Attorney General’s office brought action against Client Experts Care of Boynton Beach and two of its executives under the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act. The company operates under other names and may have offices in Pompano Beach.

The state alleges that salespeople masquerading as computer technicians would answer phone calls from worried computer users who saw phony pop-up warnings that the company had planted via the Internet. The company then charged the consumers $200 to $250 to eliminate threats that didn’t exist, according to complaint filed in Palm Beach County court.

Stermer has been appointed to take control of the company’s finances, find and secure assets, and reimburse consumers nationwide. He has been assisted by DSI’s Yale S. Bogen, a forensic accounting specialist, in recreating the books and records of the Receivership Defendants andproviding other general financial advisory services.

On Aug. 22, the circuit court upheld its temporary injunction that stopped the company from operating, froze assets and authorized Stermer to move forward.
